SoulTracks Lost Gem: Deniece Williams Tells the Tale of a “Fallen Angel”

    In 1996, after eight years away from the R&B music scene, Deniece Williams quietly returned to the contemporary landscape with an independently released album entitled Love Solves It All. Following inspirational sets such as 1989’s Special Love and 1991’s Lullabies to Dreamland, the ten-song collection (recorded in London) found the Songbird collaborating with top-tier talents such as Michael Omartian and Juliet Roberts.

    One particularly poignant number from Love Solves It All is entitled “Fallen Angel.” Co-penned by Niecy with producer Alan Glass and Andrew Klippel, the cautionary tale of wandering down the wrong path is, in fact, an endearing showcase for her classic phrasing and emotive soprano stylings. Had the album received better distribution and marketing, it’s a likely bet that more longtime fans would be familiar with this sorely overlooked Lost Gem.
