SoulTrackers have seen a few stories we’ve done on young drummer, music historian and philanthropist, Drew Schultz. He’s played drums with the Four Tops and Temptations, and he’s brought some soul music legends into the recording studio to record new music with him.

The Drew Schultz Funk Machine, formed in 2006 at NYU, is a band of soul torchbearers, carrying on the legacy from the legends of Motown and classic R&B. Along with Drew are guitarist Emilio Tostado, bassist Jent LaPalm, keyboardist/Trumpeter/Vocalist John Guari, and lead vocalist Chris Ams.

Drew and the band have just released a new live album, featuring stripped down versions of songs from Drew’s Back to Class album. And our newest First Listen is their take on the Melvin Davis classic, “Told You So.” Check it out below and tell us what you think!
