Last year millions of music lovers came to SoulTracks and other great websites to read about what's going on in the world of soul music. We've consistently heard your passion for music and your desire to make a difference.

We've written several articles about the challenges being faced by soul music artists, even as they are delivering some of the best music we've heard in years. We've discussed the problems with misguided broadcast radio and with youth-obsessed major labels, and how adult music fans have been ignored so long that many have given up on listening to new music -- even though they crave it. Consequently, CD sales are down, and some great artists aren't getting the shine their hard work deserves. And we've heard your frustration and your desire to help change things.

Well, we don't have the ability to fix all those problems, but we have the ability to make a difference and to support artists making music that deserves to be supported. And that's where you all come in. No protests or boycotts. For one week (Feb. 15-24, 2013), we're asking soul music fans of the world to unite to do one simple thing: Buy a new album. That's it. Find music you are interested in and buy it. You can download an mp3 album or you can buy a physical CD. Heck, you hipsters can even buy vinyl. But do it. This week. Don't know what to buy? Here's a list of some our favorite releases of the past year.

You can go to any of our music reviews on SoulTracks and click through to Amazon to hear it before buying. Even better, if you have an independent music store in your area, go there and support their work with your purchase (here's our list of some great independent stores). And then when you're done, tell us about it by commenting below on what you purchased and what you thought about it. And let your Facebook and Twitter friends know! Collectively, we can have an impact.

    So, here's your assignment:

    1.  Buy a new CD or mp3 album

    2.  Comment below on what you bought

    3.  Spread the word to your friends

Are you up for this challenge? Let's do it.
